Artist Statement
My multi-layered oil paintings usually combine rigorous realistic technique with imaginative subjects. This pattern expresses the spirit of the studio more than any individual subject. Do your best, but do not take yourself too seriously.
Biographical Notes
John Grow was born in Evanston, Illinois and studied Art at Northwestern Univeristy. The artist has lived in Durango, Colorado since 1979. Much of his work has portrayed the "Four Corners" area, with early precision subjects including archaeological reconstruction painting and accurate depictions of Colorado narrow gauge railroads. Since the late 1990s, John has concentrated on human subjects. Juried Show Awards for the "people paintings" include seven Best of Show.
