This solo exhibit features thirty-nine (39) works of art created by Selma Hurwitz in her own medium of Hadbakah, a medium that she herself devised in 1964. Hadbakah is glued-thread painting. Instead of using a brush, the artist glues various threads, especially metalized threads, one by one to a specially prepared surface. Hadbakah requires meticulous maneuvering of the threads in order to achieve the desired shading and design in the artwork. Changes in thread direction cause shifting reflections that create a luminous visual texture in the image that often appears to have a remarkable three dimensional effect.
"Life Around Us, Then and Now", The Artwork of Selma Hurwitz, will be on exhibit from June 10th through August 11th, 2007. The Opening Reception for this exhibit is Sunday, June 10th, 1 PM to 5 PM.
